WDS Deployment Driver additon to boot image

$

I'm trying to add a network driver to a boot image. I'm getting the error "A required privilege is not held by the client".

Steps I've taken to troubleshoot:

1. Reinstall WDS

2. Give full ownership of the server drives to domain admins

3. Taken out of the DC OU and rebooted so current GPO's weren't applied

4. Changed one local security policy to allow domain admins to backup files and directories (found on one TechNet post)

5. Tried a run-as-admin both in the WDS program as well as from the command line

6. Reinstalled the boot image from a x64 win7 disk (PCs that we are trying to image are x64)

It's a RealTek network driver that we are trying to upload, I've been researching for days now and haven't found a solution. My last week with this company is next week and i'd like to have it fixed for them before I leave. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I've looked at all posts I can find on this forum as well, nothing has worked.

Copy Profile

I have image that when I run SysPrep, it copies the profile to default which is correct.  If I then run image capture, add the image to the WDS server, and deploy the image, the copied profile is gone and I am back to the generic profile.  I do normally run a automation xml when deploying, but this happens even when I turn off the automation.

I know the sysprep is coping the profile because I can restart the machine afterwords and let it run the setup, and see my profile.  I also Ghosted the image after the SysPrep and I can deploy it just fine with the default profile.

Does anybody know what I am doing wrong, or have a work around for this issue?

Thank you,

Ryan

Intel I217 bad driver for WinPE

Hi,

I can't find a driver that works in WinPE for the Intel I217-LM NIC.  The NIC is in an HP Elitedesk 800 G1.  The driver I'm using works with the installation of Windows 7 x64 that I captured, but the same driver won't work with WinPE.  I'm using the WinPE that comes with Server 2008 R2.

The driver I initially used was from HP's site.  I've also tried using drivers directly from Intel with no success.

Has anyone solved a similar problem?

Thanks.

Hi,

I am trying to configure WDS Server. When I accept c:\Remoteinstall or change it to anything else I get error: "The Filename, Directory Name, or volume label syntax is incorrect. I even added another drive but end up with the same error.

I think i covered all prerequisites. Can anyone help me resolve this issue?

Thanks

Can't find the driver that MDT wants

We just got a new HP model (the ProDesk 600 G1 SFF), and I cannot get it to connect to MDT via PXE. I get the error that it cannot connect to the deployment share because a networking device did not have a driver installed. The device ID I get is: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_153A&SUBSYS_18E7103C&REV_04

The driver I've imported into MDT has the exact same hardware ID, but without the REV number at the end. Searching for the full ID on Google finds no results. It also does not appear on pcidatabase.com. I imported that driver directly from the CD that came with the PC. I tried contacting Intel, but they sent me to HP because it is an integrated ethernet adapter. HP had me update the chipset, and I loaded those drivers to MDT as well. Still no luck. HP then told me to contact Microsoft.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Windows 8.1 Not Activating On KMS Host

I have a KMS 3.1 running on 2008R2. The goal is to be able to activate Windows 8.1. It all appears to be running properly, but the client running 8.1 will not activate. Below are a series of questions and errors:

Environment:

Server: VAMT 3.1 on WS 2008R2

Client:  Windows 8.1 Enterprise

Questions:

  • After installing the VAMT 3.1, on the server hosting the application I ran slmgr /ipk <<using a key for the ws 2008 R2>>  Any other key returned an invalid  key error. Is this the correct key to use?
  • When do I use the slmgr /ipk, on the client the I need to activate or on the VAMT (KMS) server?
  • When adding new Windows 8.1 KMS keys to the VAMT, am I suppose to use the public ones or the keys from our VL account?

KMS Client Setup Keys:  http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj612867.aspx

  • When do I use the GLVK (listed on the site above) versus the CSVLK?

Errors:

On the client

  • I have ran: slmgr /ipk MHF9N-XY6XB-WVXMC-BTDCT-MKKG7 (this is a GVLK) on the client and success. Then I go and do: slmgr /ato  and I get:

  • Event logs show:

The client has sent an activation request to the key management service machine.

Info:

0xC004F042, 0x00000000, ksmserver.mydomain.com:1688, a7420cab-fd90-4d35-b014-bd8e77b6d44c, 2013/11/06 16:05, 0, 5, 0, 81671aaf-79d1-4eb1-b004-8cbbe173afea, 25

  • I run the nslookup to confirm the dns entries:  success

On the server

  • Within VAMT, I right click on the client which I wish to activate and select:

I get the following error:  The Software Licensing Service reported that the computer could not be activated. No Key Management Service (KMS) could be contacted. Please see the Application Event Log for additional information.

  • If I select Volume activate, I get:

The Software Licensing Service reported that the computer could not be activated. No Key Management Service (KMS) could be contacted. Please see the Application Event Log for additional information.

  • I run slmgr /dli, I get:

  • And if I run slmgr /dli all, I get:

I do not see anything licensed.

Errors During "re-role" of IIS7 0x80070643

Is re-role a word.

Having problem accessing VMRC from my vista workstation to my 2008 X64 Server with Virtual Server 2005 R2 installed

Then could not access Virtual Server at all via web interface.

Fiddled with Authentication, and it got worse.

Panic not I thought, remove virtual server, un-role IIS, and start again, except it will not. I am unable to re-role IIS at all

Very odd I thought.

This has been raised before, however that person opted for a reinstall before it got anywhere. I really dont want to do that.

2 NIC with 2 Subnets

I've got to setup a Small server (2008) but I'm trying to know how to do a few simple things.

1) The network has 2 Networks a 10.10.x.x network that's connected to a Static IP & DLS Line, and a 192.168.x.x network that's connected to a Fiber Line (Dynamic IP Address)

2) The Server is only running as a Web server, but pulls data from a second computer on the 10.10.x.x network

3) We need to be able to access the Intranet Website from Either Network, so I'm guessing for both Networks the computer will need 2 Static IP Addresses

4) We would like for all Internet Calls (Web Services) that the server only uses the 192.168.x.x Network

I've done configurations for single Subnet networks, but not this dual network configuration.  Can it be done, and if so, how?

I have a TechNet subscription and am supposed to get "priority support" but I mistakenly asked my question in one of the forums that is not in the "priority support monitored" list. Included here by reference:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/bbbb34f2-e098-4f7d-b692-88e033869385/windows-server-2012r2-inplace-upgrade-from-2012-quotjust-quitsquot?forum=winserver2012r2previewsetup

Short description: On the 2012 DataCenter machine which serves as my Hyper-V host, I mount the install media and launch Setup. It starts, copies the temporary files ($windows.~bt) and then just quits.

Would appreciate any suggestions that don't involve doing a detailed documentation capture of how the server is configured followed by a clean install, that is what I'm trying to avoid if possible.

I am not trying to do anything special or scripted, just a standard OS upgrade.

Is this possible thorugh a setting within the autounattend.xml or do i have to use an image which has this feature already enabled through dism ?

Background on this is that i want to deploy several different Server 2012 Installations just using one base image for installation.

If a server has been installed as Server 2008R2 Enterprise, can it later be down graded to Server 2008R2 Standard and if so, is as simple as exchanging the license keys?

Cannot boot with PXE on new Intel I217-LM nic card

I imaged a new Dell 5540 with nic I-218LM perfectly by inserting the driver.

After that I did the same with the Lenovo T540p with nic I-217LM which is the same driver "E1D6232.inf" and when I boot into PXE (after changing bios to UEFI network to both or legacy) it finds the SCCM/WDS server and finds the advertisement.

It asks me to press F12, I press it but it doesn't react and the following line is: "PXE-MOF: Exiting Intel Boot Agent". So I find this weird, it's like the key F12 doesn't work. Is there a way to see if this key works?

Does anybody know why it's not going furthur? The correct driver seems to be injected into the boot image. I am using the driver from the lenovo website in the Windows OS after Winpe stage.

Creating boot images on WDS server 2012

Hello Everyone, I've a problem creating a list with boot images in WDS 2012.

I have installed WDS on a 2012 Server and booted a Windows 8.1 using PXE from this 2012 server and successfully captured an image which I can now see under install images in WDS. The same I want to do for a WindowsXP and a Windows 7 machine (all for educational use).

The issue is that I do not know how to get this install image to become a boot image so that I can use it for deployment. When I try to add the Windows 8.1 wim-file as a boot image I get an error "The file does not contain a valid boot image". How do I solve this?

Thank you very much for your support

Kind regards Arnold

License of OS when using PXE to network boot laptops

So I'm using WDS to pxe boot laptops without HDD for an internal network. My question is when I use the license key to make the operating system valid, what will happen when I go to deploy said operating system to those laptops. Will a message pop up saying this operating system is counterfeit or will I be fine. The operating system I plan on using is Windows XP.

Any help is greatly appreciated

Domain Membership

Hi,

I am using dJoin.exe for offline domain join.

Now the pc is started and I have applied certain GP objects. The PC is not receiving any Group Policies.

The question is if there is way to check if the domain membership has been performed successfully (I can see the correct information under Computer Properties --> PC Name /Domain )

Additional Info: My Server is running 2008 R2 and domain functional/forest level is 2003.

WDS Deployment Slow

Hi,

I'm having a speed issue when pulling down the boot image using WDS. I know there's been a few questions on WDS speeds and I've tried the solutions including the TFTP block size increase but to no avail.  We're unicasting at this stage and I'm pretty confident the settings are correct as we've had this working at a decent speed before.

I think I've now found the problem as I plugged the laptop into the server switch and it was quick as, so, it seems the problem is between the switches.  Question is what is that could be hindering it as ping times are fine, as is general network speed.  The switches (Cisco Linksys) don't have any vlans and are pretty much using default configs.  Is there something that's slowing the tftp transfer?

Cheers guys..

dcpromo.exe Administrator Password required error

I am running the Active Domain Services Installation Wizard on a brand new Windows 2008 box.  After the initial part completes, and I go on to run the dcpromo.exe wizard to promote the domain, I get the following error:  "The local Administrator account becomes the domain Administrator account when you create a new domain.  The new domain cannot be created because the local Administrator account password does not meet requirements.  Currently, a password is not required for the local Administrator account.  We recommend that you use the net user command-line tool with the /passwordreq:yes option to require a password for the account before you create the new domain; otherwise, a password will not be required for the domain Administrator account."

Following the advice in the message, I typed the following at the command prompt:  net user Administrator <ExistingComplexPassword> /passwordreq:yes.  The computer returned a successful completion message.  However, on re-attempting the dcpromo.exe execution, I got the same error message.  I tried uninstalling Active Domain Services, and restarting the computer (strangely, the password I had used previously, and typed at the comand prompt no longer would allow me to log in.  I was only able to log in by going in through a second account (which was a member of the Administrators Group).  I changed the password for the Administrator account, logged out, and back in under "Administrator," re-tried the net user command line, and then re-ran the Active Domain Services wizard.  Same result.  I then tried creating a brand new account, and making it a member of the Administrators Group.  I logged off, and attempted to once again run the wizard.  Same result.  I've searched technet, but none of the other posts on this topic seem helpful (other than the one that indicated that re-installing the server o/s resolved the problem).  It seems to me that there is something funny going on with that user account--is there a way to get "under the hood" to check for problems with it?  I've checked the password complexity requirements, and each password I've attempted to use meets them.

I've been fighting this long enough!  Help!

DISM Sloowwwww

So, I've had to upgrade my Windows WIAK to start using it with server 2008 R2, and it seems that imageX is not there anymore, so I've been using DISM, and it is SO SLOW to mount and unmount images.  I see the following times with:

boot.wim

mount: ~ 2 minutes (not too bad)

unmount ~ 20 minutes

install.wim

mount ~ 5 minutes

unmount ~ 40 minutes (AND STILL WAITING!)

I've noticed that if I kill the process and reboot the server and try again it will unmount faster.  Looking at resource manager, the server is basically sitting idle and not doing anything, so it's not like it's grinding the disks through the image file.  Also, this install.wim image that I'm trying to unmount now, it seems to hang at the following:

C:\Documents and Settings\rmfadmin>"C:\Program Files\Windows AIK\Tools\Servicing

\Dism.exe" /unmount-wim /Mountdir:D:\mount /commit

Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool

Version: 6.1.7600.16385

Image File : D:\rmfisher\2008 R2\install.wim

Image Index : 1

Then, once it eventually starts showing a progress bar, it runs at an acceptable pace.  So, something is causing it to hang when it's first starting this process.  This happens with any .wim file I try to mount/unmount.  ImageX worked so well!

These are the commands I'm using to mount and unmount:

"C:\Program Files\Windows AIK\Tools\Servicing\Dism.exe" /mount-wim /wimfile:"D:\rmfisher\2008 R2\install.wim" /index:1 /mountdir:d:\mount"C:\Program Files\Windows AIK\Tools\Servicing\Dism.exe" /unmount-wim /Mountdir:D:\mount /commit

Any ideas would be great!  Thanks!

EDIT:

Here is some more infor from the log file I have it generating during unmounting.  I have it set at level 4.  This is where the log sits when the process shows that it's just sitting at Image Index 1
