I have a TechNet subscription and am supposed to get "priority support" but I mistakenly asked my question in one of the forums that is not in the "priority support monitored" list. Included here by reference:
Short description: On the 2012 DataCenter machine which serves as my Hyper-V host, I mount the install media and launch Setup. It starts, copies the temporary files ($windows.~bt) and then just quits.

Would appreciate any suggestions that don't involve doing a detailed documentation capture of how the server is configured followed by a clean install, that is what I'm trying to avoid if possible.
I am not trying to do anything special or scripted, just a standard OS upgrade.
Can Exchange 2013 and Remote Desktop Services Coexist on the same physical box (running Server 2012) if it has enough resources?
Thanks in advance!

First question: Is this the correct forum for my second question?
The old RAID controller failed, so I can't use it to pre-install a newer driver. The system boots from a RAID 5 set into Server 2008 R2. The new 3ware controller is capable of reading and using the existing array, if only the newer driver existed on that array. The challenge is to install the newer driver for the newer controller on the existing array.
Can you point me to a document which will step me through the procedure? The possibilities that come to my mind is a procedure based on booting from USB into WinPE, or booting from the original install disc.
Beware of unmoderated moderators in the Expression Web forums.
How can I download the hotfix KB 975710 for Windows Server 2008

We are buying a second server so in case of a HW failure we can simply switch over the HDDs and continue. My question is how similar does the HW have to be so this works? Also will it require reactivation? Could the processors be different? How about the memory configuration both amount and type (unregistered vs registered). The rest we should be able to match, i.e. Ethernet, integrated raid, etc.
Even better would be if we would have a "shadow" server that automatically synchronized everything incl. SQL data, etc. Is there something like that?
Hello, our primary domain controller is currently on a machine that has Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard. We are planning to setup a second domain controller as a failover to our primary domain controller. My question is, can we have a secondary domain controller on a Windows Server 2012 R2 even if our primary domain controller is on a machine that has Windows Server 2008 R2?
Hi,
I have and education center that is running GHOST deployment for 10 years.
It's time for some change. I've installed Windows server 2012, WDS and GHOST Server on one hyper-V machine
When i deploy through ghost it finishes with an image of 25 GB on 10 PC.s in rough 1h (multicast)
When i try the same with WDS it finishes in 8-10h (multicast).
IGMP is enabled, switches are set for multicast.
Is there anything that i can do?
I imaged a new Dell 5540 with nic I-218LM perfectly by inserting the driver.
After that I did the same with the Lenovo T540p with nic I-217LM which is the same driver "E1D6232.inf" and when I boot into PXE (after changing bios to UEFI network to both or legacy) it finds the SCCM/WDS server and finds the advertisement.
It asks me to press F12, I press it but it doesn't react and the following line is: "PXE-MOF: Exiting Intel Boot Agent". So I find this weird, it's like the key F12 doesn't work. Is there a way to see if this key works?
Does anybody know why it's not going furthur? The correct driver seems to be injected into the boot image. I am using the driver from the lenovo website in the Windows OS after Winpe stage.
Hi guys
I'm trying to import all the drivers from the SCCM driver package into WDS running Windows Server 2008 R2 for my Lenovo W540 and everything imported fine except for a few critical drivers. I've tried over and over and they fail every time.
The only difference I can see between the drivers that import and that ones that don't is that the drivers which successfully import are signed by the manufacturer, and the ones that won't are signed by, "Microsoft Windows Hardware Compatibility Publisher".
If I manually install the drivers, they install fine without giving me any warning, so why can't WDS import them? According to WDS, they're unsigned which is not true. I checked the cab files. Help?
Hello!
I downloaded Windows server 2012 r2 evaluation version and i am trying to install it in a virtual machine but it asks me for a serial and doesn't install it without the serial. Aprreciate on answer. thank you
Hi,
So I have been having a problem with Server2008 R2 and sysprep on vmware.
I have been tasked with creating some images to be used within a VLE in the future and what I had planned to provide was 6 images. 3 of Server and 3 of Win 7. 1 of each totally unpatched, 1 partially patched and 1 fully patched.
My issued arrived after I had initially setup my images. I installed server and win 7, I then set up server as DC with various services to be running (DNS, DHCP etc). Once I set everything up and tested to make sure all was working fine. I sysprepped to
OOBE with generalize the server vmware image to remove licensing (using my own license to create) and SIDs. (I aimed to create .wim images so that different licensing info could be installed once the images were put to use in the VLE)
Sysprep launched and ran fine but when I restarted and services had finished reinstalling then devices got to 100%, I then received an error stating that "Windows Setup could not configure Windows on this computer's hardware" I clicked Ok then was sent into a reboot loop where it would restart, services would try to reinstall and it would give an error "Windows could not complete the installation, please restart and try again" then reboot and repeat.
I checked for anyone having the same issues and most of the results I have came across spoke about a the issues with the registry not being able to handle entries over 8kb when sysprepped. I installed the hotfixa on the backups i had created and tried again but to no avail.
I am quite stumped as to how to get around this issue. If anyone can provide any help on this I would really appreciate it.
I tried to install Windows 8.1 Pro RTM german with the Windows Deployment Service under Windows Server 2012 R2.
Unfortunately the setupprocess can't access the UNC-share on the server where the additional drivers are located.
The specified path and the credentials are correct. Also tried many different combination (ip-address or servername, different user...)

All pathes and credentials listed in the log are working from a different computer which is not joined.
I assume, that there is a problem with the network driver. I have integrated the NIC-drivers in the startup image, which can connect and install the Windows 8.1 Pro setup. When the installed Windows 8.1 starts, it has the NIC-driver installed and the connection
to the domain is working correctly.
I have no more clues, where the problem could be located.
Hi all,
We are attempting to combine data currently stored in local sql server from several VAMT installs into a single database on a SQL Server 2008.
We export the data into a cilx file from the local database, change the VAMT connection to the new server database successfully, then try to import the file back into that new database. We get the error:
The MERGE statement conflicted with the FOREIGN KEY constraint "FK_ActiveProduct_AvailableProduct". The conflict occurred in database "VAMT", table "base.AvailableProduct".
Being a database guy, I can see that the problem is that there is a missing reference key from AvailableProduct when the script attempts to load products into ActiveProduct.
Has anybody found a way around this? We have tried first importing a Products Only file, but that got the same error. I am considering having to reorder the stored procedure that loads the data, although I don't much like the idea of having to rewrite black box code.
Thanks,
Reinis
Hi Guys (again)
I am trying to deployment fresh images to PC using WDS using a WDSClientUnattend.xml. What I am trying to achieve is a wipe of the existing drive and an installation of the image.
I believe I have configured the WDSClientUnttend file correctly, but it always asks me about where I want to install windows and I cannot figure out why. Below is the file configuration. What am I missing?
<DiskConfiguration><WillShowUI>OnError</WillShowUI><Disk wcm:action="add"><CreatePartitions><CreatePartition wcm:action="add"><Type>Primary</Type><Order>1</Order><Extend>true</Extend></CreatePartition></CreatePartitions><ModifyPartitions><ModifyPartition wcm:action="add"><Active>true</Active><Letter>C</Letter><Label>System</Label><Format>NTFS</Format><Order>1</Order><PartitionID>1</PartitionID></ModifyPartition></ModifyPartitions><DiskID>0</DiskID><WillWipeDisk>true</WillWipeDisk></Disk></DiskConfiguration><ImageInstall><OSImage><InstallTo><DiskID>0</DiskID><PartitionID>1</PartitionID></InstallTo><InstallToAvailablePartition>true</InstallToAvailablePartition><WillShowUI>OnError</WillShowUI></OSImage></ImageInstall>
