Multiple Versions of Windows Server Deployment

We currently have a system that runs Windows Server 2008 R2 with WDS that deploys Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2. I want to build a system that can deploy the following:

Windows Server 2008 R2

Windows Server 2012

Windows Server 2012 R2

I've read that Windows Server 2012 cannot be deployed using the Windows Server 2008 R2 WDS so I need to build out a new solution to deploy Windows Server 2012. My main question is, can I build a WDS server on a Windows Server 2012 R2 platform and deploy the above OS's?

WDS unattended join

Hello everyone!

I'm trying to unattended set up Windows 8.1, and I faced with some issues.

  1. In my unattended.xml I tried to name computers both like pc%02# and %MACHINENAME%. none of this worked
  2. when the computer tried to join to the domain, I see following error in Event Viewer: The computer XXX tried to join to the domain YYY but failed. Error code 234. EventID: 4097, Source: NetJoin

What's the reason of this behavior?

Checked: user in unattended.xml has enough rights to join to the domain.

SFC problem - "Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service"

We are trying to attempt to fix a Windows 2008 start up problem. We boot the machine from a Windows 2008 CD and go to the repair tool - command prompt.

When we do the command sfc /scannow, we are getting

"Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service"

We did some researches there someone suggested the trustedinstaller is not running so we tried to do a net start trustedinstaller.

But We are getting

"The windows modulers instaler service is starting
The windows modulers instaler service is starting could not be started

A system error has occured
System error 1067 has occured
The process terminated unexpectedly. "

Anyone can give us an idea to see why we can not run the sfc the first place. Thanks

Changing SID using Sysprep without starting from scratch

Long story short, we have a vmware environment with several vm's set up by an outside vendor.  The vm's were set up and put into production just in a workgroup.  A domain was set up on another physical server but never implimented.  Had to work on several projects before getting to finish the new domain setup.  Created a new vm to be used as the new domain controller.  Tried adding a file server to the domain and had issues.  Discovered sysprep was never run on any of the vm's and being new to the virtual side of things didn't realize it wasn't done and needed to be run on my cloned machines.

My question, is there a way to reset the SID's without losing anything on our servers using sysprep?  Or is there another option out there for our network?  All of our servers are running Server 2008 R2.  There are a few SQL servers.  I dont want to continue leaving everything in a workgroup, but some of the servers we have would require several vendors to have to do a complete reinstall of everything if we had to start fresh again.  I tried searching google but could not find anything useful.

Bluescreen when deploying AMD Windows 7

Hi,

When capturing an image on an AMD system with Windows 7, I'm getting bluescreens after deployment.

For capturing an image I enter Audit Mode by CTRL-SHFT-F3. I tested it with all the Windows Updates and without even doing a single thing in Audit Mode (chose for generalize and system shutdown in sysprep right away). Capturing goes al fine, but on any AMD system where I want to deploy it on I'm getting this blue screen which closes to fast to see what causes this. Strange enough deploying windows 8 AMD goes all fine. Also I've got a lot of drivers for AMD injected in the install and caputere image. 

When entering safe mode, getting a bluescreen after amdkmafd.sys.

Does anyone have a solution for this problem?

Recycle Bin Corrupted Problem

When I start my Win 8 PC, a message appears and says - The recycle bin on D:\ is corrupted. Do you want to empty the recycle bin for this drive?
When this error occurs, Domain Users cannot access local drives and when they try to access the drives, It shows this message, " Location is not available, Access is Denied ".

rd /s /q D:\$Recycle.bin I used this command, but the problem is still comes.

I correct this problem by Dis joining the PC from Domain and Re joining again, But when after the system restarts, the same problem occur again.

Can anybody help me to resolve this problem ??

Cant access to internet

Hi ,I am from Azerbaijan ,asking question about internet problem in Server 2008 ,actually there are same problems mentioned before ,but none of them is same as mine.I have testserver HP proliant,I want to test and practise all Exchange ,TMG and etc in this server ,I am trying to create my own small network ,I installed Vware 10 in Server (OS is Win 7) ,then in  Vware  I installed Win 7 and Server 2008 R2,server has 2 NICs.I plugged the cable one of them ,now in the server there is internet ,but my target is accessing internet from inside ,from  Vware (server 2008 and it's clients ).I installed AD ,DHCP (172.20.1.2-172.20.1.40)and DNS server ,when deploying AD it asked me assign one IP adress,I manually configured 172.20.1.5 ,and gave 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 DNS adress ,and I disabled other NIC .I tried all versions but couldnt access to internet .I tried mainly about NAT ,also in  windows 7 client when I choose Network adapter VMnet2(NAT) it access to internet ,but I think my adress differs from mine, It is long story ,I will appreciate it ) thank you very much :)

Domain Membership

Hi,

I am using dJoin.exe for offline domain join.

Now the pc is started and I have applied certain GP objects. The PC is not receiving any Group Policies.

The question is if there is way to check if the domain membership has been performed successfully (I can see the correct information under Computer Properties --> PC Name /Domain )

Additional Info: My Server is running 2008 R2 and domain functional/forest level is 2003.

WDS - Server 2008 R2 Create an Capture Image Error

I'm trying to create a capture image, and when I do that I receive an error stating "The operation completed with errors. A required privilege is not held by the client".

I've logged in with multiple domain admins, I've "run as administrator" for WDS, I've uninstalled/reinstalled the role and reconfigured it. I cant find any group policies that would be affecting this in a negative way. This is installed on a DC which does not have DHCP.

I'm pretty much at the end of my rope here, hopefully someone can point me in the right direction.

Creating a server 2008r2 DC from scratch

Hello,

I am creating a lab environment with server 2008r2, I do a fresh install of OS, install AD domain services, then run dcpromo. All very standard,

However, every time, on reboot the microsoft loading takes a very long time, when done I get a black screen with an active mouse, but nothing else. If I leave it for an hour or two it will reboot occasionally, but always with the same result.

If I boot in safe mode it sticks at PNPCLASS for a long time, then the black screen and mouse again.

I've it 3 times, there must be something I am doing wrong.

Tee machine is a Poweredge server, 64bit, 2gb ram, 1TB hd. I am on a home network/workgroup, not on a domain.

Any suggestions out there?

2008 R2 Deploy time increased since adding unattend.xml

Hey chaps,

I have a cloud platform on which we are deploying Windows virtual servers, 2008 and 2012.

I'm working on the 2008 Standard R2 image at the moment.

I was having an issue whereby the EULA was displayed after deploying the sysprepped template.

I added an unattend to resolve this, which is has - thats now all fine, however what isnt fine is the time it takes to deploy windows since adding in this xml file.

Before i could get a windows VM at the logon screen within 60 seconds, albeit with interaction - i had to accept the EULA and click next, before it would go to the logon screen. Since adding in the unattend.xml it takes in excess of 10 minutes while it sits on the black "preparing your computer for first use" screen. Given that i'm building a self-provisioning cloud platform, deployment speed is fairly important for us.

Is there any way i can wind this back in and bring it down to a more reasonable time? :)

Any help appriciated.

setting up a DHCP relay agent

Hello,

I'm trying to setup a relay agent for an XP client to obtain configuration through 2 routers on a VM LAB

I have 3 Segments/subnets 1,2 and 3

the topology is the following:

1- server 2008 R2 AD DS DC on subnet 1 (192.168.1.0) and a DHCP server with 2 scopes

Internal 192.168.1.0 (subnet1)

external 192.168.3.0 (subnet 3)

2- server 2008 R2 with RRAS installed

Interface 1 pointing to the internal subnet1 192.168.1.0

Interface 2 pointing to subnet2 192.168.2.0

3- server 2003 with RRAS installed

Interface 1 pointing to subnet2 192.168.2.0

Interface 2 pointing to subnet3 192.168.3.0

relay agent installed on Interface 2

(servers/Routers 2 and 3 running RIP v2)

4-  XP client on subnet3 (192.168.3.0) and the client trying to obtain config.

The XP client is unable to contact the DHCP to obtain config.

server 2003 relay agent receiving requests with no replies.

How do i get this to work?

IE 11 is not blocked during Automatic Update step.

Greetings.

I am experiencing something very strange with our Windows Deployment Servers.

I have WDS 2013 with AIK-8.1 combination server to do our machine deployment. Some of our machines need to have IE11 blocked from installation (for compatability issue). As in case with IE10 before we installed blocker from microsoft and then captured image.

Before capturing it it was tested by runnign auto update and ie 11 is not being installed.

Problem is during deployment during automatic update step (post application) the system picks up and installs ie11.

If I remove it by hand after installation is over and run windows update - it's not installed. If I disable auto-update step in installation - and run them by hand after - it's not installed.

Does anyone else experienced this scenario when blocker doesn't seem to have effect?

On-Premise Exchange 2013 + Sharepoint 2013

An on-premise solution for migrating previous versions of SBS is supported under a single physical Server 2012 Standard with Hyper-V role, runningVM-1: DC w/ Essentials role and VM-2: Exchange server.  However, there is no substantial mention of Sharepoint integration.  For example, in Server Essentials 2012 R2 Migration Guide, Exchange is addressed in LOB migration section, but not Sharepoint.  Standalone Sharepoint on a DC is not a possibility.  Does this mean that Sharepoint should coexist with Exchange on VM-2?

AFAIK, Sharepoint 2013 + Exchange 2013 on a single server instance is not recommended.  For the purposes of an SBS-type deployment (< 25 users), however, does coexistence become appropriate?

problem in installing windows 2003 x86 + blue page

hi

when i want to install windows server 2003 x86 on a worstation system like this:

HDD:  500GB western Digital
RAM: 4GB DDR3
VGA:onboard
Cpu: intel G2020  2.9 GHZ
MainBoard: ASUS H61M-C

When the system boots, at the time of the initial preparation of the installation process which appears in Windows blue screen appears.I have windows 7 and xp and Windows Server 2008 x64-86 and I've tested it and run the setup program and no problem. To install Windows Server 2003 x86 blue screen only appears on the screen.

what should i do?

Windows 2008/2012 templates and sysprep

Hi

I created two VMs, one with 2008R2 and second with 2012R2 system. I want to use this machines as templates for the future servers. I launch the sysprep /generalized with shutdown option. Currently i always disjoin this templates from domain before runing sysprep.

My question is, is it necessary to disjoin this templates before running sysprep or they can be members of domain? No roles are installed on this machines, they are just patched with the latest updates.

WDS Error 0x80070570 Deploying Windows 7

We have a 2012 server that is running WDS.  We are attempting to push Windows 7 Pro (x64), but have been having a hell of a time.

A couple of months ago when we first deployed the system, we were able to image between 10-15 PCs without issue.  What we are finding now is that we can capture a fresh image, and deploy it once before we see the 0x80070570 error.  

Here are details about what we are doing and have done:

  • Image capture from a VMware hosted Windows 7 box
  • WDS is on a Windows 2012 server (fully patched)
  • DHCP and DNS is hosted on a separate Windows 2012 server
  • Capturing always works
  • We only have one image per group
  • Exporting and image, deleting the group, and importing the image does not fix the issue
  • These are unicast deployments
  • We are standardized on HP 8300 Elite Pro desktops
  • The newest drivers have been added to the boot image

License of OS when using PXE to network boot laptops

So I'm using WDS to pxe boot laptops without HDD for an internal network. My question is when I use the license key to make the operating system valid, what will happen when I go to deploy said operating system to those laptops. Will a message pop up saying this operating system is counterfeit or will I be fine. The operating system I plan on using is Windows XP.

Any help is greatly appreciated
