Unattended Install of Windows Server:

$

Hello All,

I am looking to create an unattended install of Windows Server 2016 either from a network drive or USB.  I have found several articles and the solutions provided do not seem to work.  The furthest I was able to get was to create an unattend.xml file, however the result is just a reboot loop when the install runs.  Furthermore, I cant find any logs to debug it.

Several years ago I was able to do this with Server 2003, but no luck with 2016.  It looks like the process is far more complex since the image manager is now required.

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/36609.windows-server-2016-unattended-installation.aspx

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-windows_install/unattendedxml-microsoft-deployment-server-2016/ea3bf651-e221-4ff2-b2e2-5d2343a1dd6e?auth=1

Some articles and docs suggest AIK, others suggest MDT.  Which one works?

Does anyone here have a working example they could post?

Is it possible to change the IPS that WDS' TFTP listens on

I have a requirement that TFTP can't communicate on port UDP69 on all IPs, but it must be restricted to a single IP and a different port. I've searched for a location to change this but I haven't seen one. Where can I set the TFTP service to listen on a single IP and port?

Windows 10, WDT & WDS problem

I am trying to deploy Windows 10 Pro using WDT and WDS.

I have followed the following instructions from Microsoft Deploy a Windows 10 image using MDT but get the dreaded 0xc0000001 after the PXE boot (litetouchx64.wim) has loaded.

I have increased the TFTP maximum block size to 4096 and unchecked "Enable variable Windows extension" but to no avail.

Can anyone give me any pointers?

Thanks in advance,

Matt

Goodmorning everyone,

I'm trying to create a capture image using the WDS service, but when I call it via PXE or USB key I get the error 0xc0000001 or oxc000000f "Windows failed to start etc ..".

The discover image works regularly.

The problem seems well known in fact I found various solutions on Windows 2012 R2 forums, but none worked.

Can anyone suggest any other ideas?

Thank you

Setupcomplete.cmd with WDS

I have been using WDS for a while now to image my company PCs. I works great no issue there.

Now i want to use  Setupcomplete.cmd with WDS. I can't figure out that where can i store Setupcomplete.cmd.

I have been storing this Setupcomplete.cmd on WDS server (C:\windows\setup\scripts\Setupcomplete.cmd) but it just does work. The script is fine as when i run it manually on a computer it works fine.

1. I think i am not storing the Setupcomplete.cmd in the right location. Where can i store it so that WDS can deploy it on clients PCs?

2. Where can i check the logs is Setupcomplete.cmd doesn't work?

Thanks,

Hello,

I'm configuring the WDS on Server 2016 and I want to create unattendent.xml.

PXE starts normally but then I see an error (please look at screenshot).

If I set Primary, the error is

If I set Primary ,the error in log file is:

"IBSLIB LogReasons: [BLOCKING reason for {disk 0 offset 0x100000}: CanBeSystemVolume] The selected disk space is not of type ESP".

WDS versions and Windows 10 builds

Where can I find docs about WDS compatibility with client operating systems?

I found docs only for Windows Server 2012 R2:

Benefits of Windows Deployment Services
Allows network-based installation of Windows operating systems, which reduces the complexity and cost when compared to manual installations.
Supports deploying images for mixed environments including Windows 7and Windows Server 2008 R2 through Windows 8.1and Windows Server 2012 R2.
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/windows/it-pro/windows-server-2012-R2-and-2012/hh831764(v%3dws.11)

So, for Windows 10 image deployment I need Windows Server 2016 (or Server 2019)?

Hi everyone, hope you can help me.

I have a Windows Server 2019 with WDS role

It was working perfectly with many virtual and physical machines for Windows deployment.

Suddenly without changing anything it stopped working and now machines (virtual or physical) get stuck at the start of the loading bar and then display this error:

Status: 0xc0000001

Info: A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed.

I've already tried reinstalling WDS role and shared file

WDS and TFTP Windows 2008 R2

My WDS MDT PXE boot process was working fine until I installed the latest versions a couple of days ago of Windows 10 Deployment Kit and ADK WinPE for Windows 10. I've seen a possible fix (see below)

1.Open WDS

2.Right-click your server in the left pane and open properties.

3.Open tab “TFTP” and change the maximum block size to eg 1024.

4.Restart your WDS server.

The trouble is there is no TFTP tab in the properties of my WDS? Any ideas?

Remote WDSUtil and "the user has not been authenticated"

$

Running Windows 2012 with WDS installed. We have a script that works locally. However, I cannot figure out how to execute it remotely from a non-WDS server. It comes down to the WDSUTIL command, when executed remotely via PowerShell like:

Invoke-Command -ComputerName $WDSServer -Script "WDSutil /Remove-Image /Image:MyTestImage /ImageType:Install /ImageGroup:Windows2008"

always returns:

Error Code: 0x4DC
Error Description: The operation being requested was not performed because the user has not been authenticated.

I tried specifying -Credentials and -Authentication but did not find a working combination. How does one execute WDSUtil remotely?

Is Windows PE for Windows 10 redistributable?

$

Hi,

I read many articles and license agreement of ADK. But I am still not sure if the scenario is permitted:

"Make a WinPE ISO with my restoration application and let user download to do bare metal restoration"

That is, I follow ADK license agreement and instructions to make WinPE ISO. Users use my backup agent to do bare metal backup. One day, they want to restore image they backed up. They will download WinPE ISO made by me, install ISO to USB key, boot by USB key, at last, my restoration application will lead them to restore image step by step.

If this scenario doesn't allow to redistribute WinPE ISO, canI write a agreement file to tell user that they must comply with Microsoft's terms if they want to use WinPE ISO made by me.

One month ago, I posted same question in Windows Desktop SDK and Windows 10 IT Pro. But no one replied to me. Please give me advise.

Thanks a lot.
