Hi ,

I recently created a Windows 10 WIM image. I deployed this image like the other one I have for Windows 8.1 , but when the process is done the client reboots for the first time with this error message :

"An operating system wasn't found. Try disconnecting any drives that don't contain an operating system "

I'm out of ideas. Please help :D !!!

Sysprep more then once

We are starting to use Windows Deployment services on a windows server 2012 server. We are wanting to know can the server itself sysprep images?

If not, if we run sysprep on the client itself, capture the image, can we set the unattend.xml file on the WDS server image instead of running it in the client when sysprepping the client?

Also, we need a way to update our images. So for example we will have 1 image for windows 7 volume license sysprep. We use that for all workstations. A year down the road we deploy that image to a workstation, run through sysprep and update the windows updates, upgrade the software, etc. We now re sysprep t his machine and capture it to replace the old image.

Is this possible.

What are your recommendations?

Impossible to launch WDS

Hi Everybody,

I installed the WDS role on Windows Server 2008 R2 and impossible to function it. I also have on this same server "File Services" role and it is all. This server does not have DHCP and even less DNS.

The service 'Windows Deployment Services Server" is stopped and impossible to launch it. I looked in the event viewer and I have 2 errors with events ID 513 and 257:

For more information, my server is in the active directory domain and the folder RemoteInstall is created on the C: and the E:.

Events ID 513 :
An error occurred while trying to initialize provider WDSDDPS from C:\Windows\system32\wdsddps.dll. Windows Deployment Services server will be shutdown.
Error Information: 0x906

Events ID 257 :
An error occurred while trying to start the Windows Deployment Services server.
Error Information: 0x906

Here the tests which I tested but who did not permit me to solve my problem:

1st Test:
- To uninstall WDS Role
- Reboot of the Server
- Installation WDS Role

Always the same error that is impossible to launch WDS service and I always have the same errors with same events ID referred to above.

2nd Test:
While seeking on Internet, I found a solution which required to type this commands with beloww the results of each commands:
- wdsutil /uninitialized-server
Error Code: 0xC1040101
Error Description: An invalid command (/uninitialized-server) was specified.

-  wdsutil /initialize-server /reminst:e:\WDS
Error Code: 0x7B
Error Description: The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.
For this command, I also tried to put on the drive C: instead of the E: but I also have the same error.

Not having been able to find other solutions, I hope that you will be able to help me to solve my problem.

Thank you.

Regards.

Setup of Windows 2008 R2 fails

Hi all,

I have a desktop I am setting up to be a lab machine. It has a WD3200KS SATA drive that I intend to use for the OS and another drive (WD2500JS SATA) for my VM's.
When I start the W2K8 R2 setup, I get to the point where I select the drive to install on, I format the drives, everything looks okay, and then I click Next.
At that point, I get an error message saying: "Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing system partition".
It suggests checking the setup log, but since I just formatted the drives, I don't expect there are any logs I can get to.
I have physically removed the second drive so it is out of the equation.
I thought maybe it was a driver issue, but since setup saw the drives, I'm thinking that may not be it after all.

Any ideas? I'm a little lost.

Thanks,

D

After many hours of small config changes i am stumped.

We have a Windows server 2012 Windows Deployment environment deploying to a physical computer over the network. PXE works over the network. i am able to load the light touch x64 boot.wim over the network. the deployment registered with WDT but after it loads the OS and reboots it comes back with BOOTMGR is missing. the deployment task has format set to MBR (standard) disk set to 100% partition.

i have tried to condition the hard drive using dskpart but it still gives the error when i run the task.

Driver install.

Hello everybody

I am working on setting up a deployment server at work and running into an issue with the deployment image network drivers. I am doing a custom image and ran sysprep to capture the image. I was able to pxe boot to the server to capture the image but the host computer cannot connect to the server when trying to copy the image. Attempted to ping the host computer and it cannot be found. It must be the driver so I attempted to add the driver to the server image but it will not take a .exe only .inf. I found a few places online that say you can use winrar or winzip but no such luck. Appreciate the help!

PXE Error while attempting PXE Boot

I have two laptops. They are both Hp Elitebook 2760p laptops. They are both on the table waiting to be imaged via WDS.

Laptop number one, turn on, F12 (Network Boot), PXE Boot process begins, immediately finds WDS server and begins imaging process

Laptop number two, turn on, F12 (Network Boot), PXE Boot process begins, hangs, Errors:

  • pxe-e7b missing mtftp server ip address

Again, these laptops are exactly the same, to my knowledge, all hardware and software (and BIOS is updated) is identical. One PXE boots no problem, the other does not.

All other machines I have have zero issue PXE booting to WDS server and beginning the imaging process.

Why does this one specific computer fail?

Thanks!

WDS "No Images Available"

My WDS server has been working flawlessly for several months until a few days ago. First I started getting an error that There were no images available so I restarted the service and it wouldn't start back up so I reinstalled the role and I still get the "No Images Available" and the error "An error occurred while processing an image enumeration request. Error Information: 0x139F". It may also be important to note this is a x64 computer and has worked with WDS in the past and is not working just recently (No x64 computers work), there is a x86 pc that works just fine. P.S. I working with Windows 10 Images.

Standalone WDS server - -No Images available.

I have a standalone server. I get the client computer to boot with the boot.wim file, but after it loads, there are "no images available." It worked last week, there were no changes made, the client computer pulls an IP address, the registry settings are correct according to the post for the link. Services are running, DHCP and DNS are loaded on the server running WDS, The only devices are an un-managed switch, the server, and the client computer. I even took the switch out of the mix and ran directly to the server. Any other suggestions? I've cleared cache and followed all the instructions in every forum I've gone to, (about 20), I have a WDS server on our network but that doesn't work either. Bring back the good ole days when we could use GHOST and everything worked...... lol. Please help.

WinPE 10.0 - Open and Listening Port appears filtered/closed externally

$

For a variety of reasons, we are trying to open up a port in WinPE. The intent is that a security application would be able to detect winpe images on the network by communicating over that port.

We have a powershell script that runs in Winpe. and connects system.net.sockets.TCPListener to the port in question, lets say 1899.

On the Winpe host system, netstat -ab returns:

TCP 0.0.0.0:1899   <hostname>:0 LISTENING

However, externally this port cant be scanned by nmap or by nessus, and appears closed for all intents and purposes.

In a full windows OS (win7, or win10) if we bind system.net.sockets.TCPListener to port 1899 with the same code, teh port appears open and accessible.

Any ideas?

Setting up Windows 2012 R2 for Windows 10 activation using KMS

I have a Server 2012 R2 standard edition server setup with Volume Activation and is working perfect to activate my Windows 7 clients. We are preparing to start deploying Windows 10 PCs and I am trying to update the server so it will activate Windows 10 clients. I have followed the Technet articles about the hotfixes and rollups that are required for it to work, however when I get to the update that is required KB3058168 I keep getting the message "This update is not applicable to your computer" and will not update.

Here are the links to the screenshots of the updates that are installed on the machine, I hope that they work.

Adding Server2016 product to to 2012R2 KMS Host

$

I followed the following article to install the key to update the 2012R2 KMS host to activate Server2016 KMS clients.  When I enter my Windows Server 2016 KMS key it says "0xC004F050 The Software Licensing Service reported that the product key is invalid".

Ref: https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/askpfeplat/2016/10/24/kms-activation-for-windows-server-2016/

So I'm stumped.  I followed a very similar process to enable my 2012R2 KMS host to active Windows clients just the day before.  I've triple checked the key from the licensing portal.   I've removed and reinstalled the patches... Not sure what I could be missing.

Thanks.

Hello,

I have a WDS server working for all of my Windows 7 and 8.1 machines.

Server 2012 R2 and WDS and no DHCP on the same machine.

I use IP helper on the VLAN's so there are no options 66 and 67 on the DHCP ranges.

I am getting the below error for a Capture Image I am trying to add new. Existing images working fine.

Log Name:      Microsoft-Windows-Deployment-Services-Diagnostics/Admin
Source:        Microsoft-Windows-Deployment-Services-Diagnostics
Date:          9/25/2015 4:38:57 PM
Event ID:      4101
Task Category: None
Level:         Error
Keywords:      (4)
User:          SYSTEM
Computer:      Servername.domain
Description:
The Following Client failed TFTP Download:

Client IP: 10.66.10.20
Filename: \Boot\x64\Images\Windows10Capture.wim
ErrorCode: 1460
File Size: 258405544
Client Port: 9957
Server Port: 64851
Variable Window: true

The Image starts downloading and it fails with the above event ID on the server and below error codes.

I have a TFTP Maximum Block Size of 8192 on the server, the same value works for all of the other images/machines. The Variable Windows Extension is ticked on the WDS as well.

Tried reducing the TFTP Maximum Block Size to 1024 and tested with same issue.

Also tried to load the BCD file and edit the ramdisktftpblocksize to 1024, which didn't help either.

Is anyone else having issues ?

The device is a Acer Aspire R13 if it makes any difference.
