Windows 2012 R2 sysprep with unattended answer file - virtual machine for OVF

$

Hi,

I am having trouble using Sysprep with an unattended.xml answer file for my windows server 2012 R2 virtual machine.

My machine has 4 hard drive disks and I want the letters to be C, D, L, and T. I also have some security settings in my answer file. I use the following command to execute sysprep:

            Sysprep /generalize /oobe /shutdown /unattend:c:\Windows\system32\sysprep\unattend.xml

However, when I turn the machine back on the answer file is not used for some reason. I have the unattend.xml in the sysprep folder. I want to ultimately create an OVF from this machine that I can deploy multiple times.

Am I missing some steps? I am using vmware for my hypervisor. Any help would be much appreciative.

Thanks

Server 2016 standard build on VMWorkstation 12 "Windows cannot find Microsoft Software License Terms" error

Good day everyone,

I am having an issue every time I try and boot up a VM to the Server 2016 .iso file I downloaded from Microsoft. It is the 180 day trial version. My VM is configured in a lab environment with an HDD of 60Gb, 4 Gb of RAM, and 2 CPU's. Originally I had default 1 CPU, 2 Gb of RAM but articles relating stated VMWorkstation had issues in 2012 with this error being caused by lack of Memory on the VM so I upped my numbers, but am still receiving the error response, "Windows cannot find Microsoft Software License Terms. Make sure the installation sources are valid and restart the Installation process." I am running a fully updated VMWorkstation 12 and I have tried downloading the .iso multiple times in case of corruption. Please help me.

Office 2010 and WDS/WDT Deployment

$

Hello Everybody!

I am currently setting up a deployment server using WDS and WDT.  Currently, I am trying to deploy Windows 7 Pro 64 bit SP1 and Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010.  When I launch the install on a computer to take the image, Windows 7 installs and it then comes back with an error that it was unable to install Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010, error 30023.  I have went back and edited my config.xml file numerous times, however, I do not see any errors.  The server is in a school so we have a site license for Office.  This is the first few lines that I edited in my config.xml file:

<Display Level="none" CompletionNotice="no" SuppressModal="yes" AcceptEula="yes" />
<Setting Id="SETUP_REBOOT" Value="Never" />
<Setting Id="REBOOT" Value="ReallySuppress"/>
<PIDKEY Value="1234567891234567891234567" />
<Setting Id="AUTO_ACTIVATE" Value="1" />

What I believe is happening is when Windows 7 loads after the deployment, it logs into the local account, and the local account on the new build does not have the credentials built in to access the server to pull Microsoft Office from the server.  Lets call the server \\FILE-SRV and the domain DOMA_12.  When I go to access the server in file explorer on the newly built machine, it says enter a network password to connect to: FILE-SRV on Domain: DOMA_12.  If this is why it will not install Office onto the Machine, is there any way to make the image include the credentials so it can automatically pull and install office from FILE-SRV onto the local machine?  Also, the WDS is installed on \\FILE-SRV along with the Active Directory.

Thanks!

[Windows Server 2008 Standard] Retail License key does not work. Microsoft Activation phone support team told me that it is blocked MSDN key

Dear Sirs,

I bought bunch of retail boxes of Windows Server 2008 Standard Edition back in 2012.

SKU: P73-03883.

This morning I tried to activate new installation of Windows Server 2008 Standard Edition using one of these keys. Took sealed box opened it and tried to activate Windows Server 2008....

And got an error that says that the key was already used. Called Microsoft Activation service and they told me that the key is from MSDN department and not retail.  And that the key is blocked.

Ok. Took another retail box from same batch and new key worked this time.

From my point of view it looks like affected product key was initially printed on label for a retail box and at a later time it was changed to MSDN key.

Any ideas how to escalate the issue and get a replacement key?

If necessary I can provide photos of retail box.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sincerely,

Vlad

WDS Error "A component of the operating system has expired"

Hello,

I have a WDS (MDT) server which does not work anymore, I cannot start a network boot as I always get the following message:

"A component of the operating system has expired"

Errorcode: 0xc0000605
I think the problem is a result of some kind of Windows 10 Preview image, but on the MDT I do net see a Preview only Windwos 10 with Build# 10240, which should be the released buildnumber.

I also updated the ADK and WDK.

Can someone please point me in the right direction to solving the problem?

Thanks in advance

Paul

TFTP Boot does not work in Windows 2016/10 Anniversary anymore (client bug)

After the "legacy network adapter" is gone in newer Hyper-V implementations, you are stuck with the normal network adapter emulation.

And that does not work for network installations, because it has a serious bug in the tftp boot client that is buildin.

On boot time, the DCHP part works ok, but when it comes to TFTP the client "hangs" and finally times out.

Doing some reseaches with a LAN analyser you can see, that all packets send from the server are fragmented and the client is unable to reassemble them. So no data packet is ever successfully transmitted.

This fault origins in the wrong blocksize (1482)  the microsoft driver annouces to the remote tftp server during first chat. 1482 is wrong for ethernet because it iss 1428 (Ethernet MTU, less the TFTP, UDP and IP header lengths) according to RFC 2348.

I assume this is a simple typo hacked into the sources, somebody just flipped the last 2 digits.

You dont notice the problem with many TFTP servers, because the server can alter the requested packet size and lower it to a sane value. But there are some servers (for instance "SERVA") on the market that just obey the wishes of the clients.

It would be wise to fix both sides, make the client ask for a correct size and make SERVA check the size and lower it when needed.

Play it safe...

KMS activation is failing for several machines

I have a number of machines (servers and workstations) that are failing when I try to activate them using our KMS server.

The server  has been running fine for over a year but recently has been failing activation of our Windows machines.

I can update license status and even install a product key remotely but when I try to activate the same machine it fails...

"No Key Management Service (KMS) could be contacted." The event log show the attempt and nothing else.

Pretty much the same thing happens when I try to activate a machine from it's cmd prompt... "slmgr /ato" fails with error 0xC004F074 ..."The Key Management Service (KMS) is unavailable"

KMS and WMI rules are enabled in Windows firewall on both machines

KMS Server = Server 2008 R2 Enterprise 64bit

target server = Windows 2008 R2 Standard 64bit

Image Capture Boot Image Fails with 0xc000000f

I am trying to capture a Windows 8.1 Enterprise (with Update) x64 installation using WDS, but the Capture Image fails to load. I used the boot.wim from the Windows Server 2012 R2 (with Update) ISO to create a boot image in WDS and then a capture image from it. After I press F12 and the progress bar finishes the following message appears:

This only happens when I boot the capture image - the original boot image that I imported in WDS boots normally. I also tried with the Windows 8.1 (with Update) boot.wim, but the issue reoccurs. This is a Hyper-V VM on Windows Server 2012. Is this a problem with the recent update?

0xc1900101 - 0x20017

I'm trying to do an in place upgrade from Windows Server 20012 r2 to Windows Server 2016.  Both Datacenter editions.  Neither are evals or previews.

Now, Win2k12r2 runs just fine.  But when I try the in place install; after the first re-boot, I'm greeted with a blue screen then the error in a window I mention above.

I've removed all 3rd party drivers and all roles except WSUS.

I've read all over the internet on how people have dealt with this on Windows 10, but not a peep on Windows 2016.  Am I the first one?

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks.

-Michael.

WSE Connector keeps installing

Hello,

We have a customer running on a new Windows server 2012 Essentials server, it isnt a large office and all except one pc have been connected and are working properly. However one PC seems to be in some sort of loop with the installer. Everything up to the point of that connector installing works flawless, the pc can access the http://server/connect and the download works instantly.

After some searching i came across the following and did that:

To add a computer to the dashboard that was domain joined without using the Connection wizard run the command below on the client machine (or add the registry key listed in the command), you can then run the connection wizard viahttp://servername/connect.

reg add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Server\ClientDeployment" /v SkipDomainJoin /t REG_DWORD /d 1

The pc runs windows 7 Professional (just like the other pc's) Does anyone have an idea what may cause this?
