Hi All,
I have an odd issue with WDS that i'm hoping someone can assist with, unfortunately information on this is fairly skim and the articles that do exist don't directly answer the questions so apologies for the length of this. We use PXE Response with admin approval required and previously have not had an issue. However in the last month or so we have had multiple entries of "Domain AdminsX" which we can't explain.
I'll split this up into a few sections so it's easier to answer.
Before we go anywhere:
- WDS 6.3.9600.16384 (Native Mode)
- Server 2012 R2
- MDT Workbench 6.3.8450.1000
----------------------------------------
1) The MDT server has been configured as a standalone system, and each time a computer is imaged a new "Domain Admins" entry is added under Prestaged Devices (beneath Pending Devices). Can anyone explain what these objects actually mean or how to stop them appearing?
----------------------------------------
2) I recently received an error stating that "Windows Deployment Services is either stopped or running in legacy mode" when i was trying to approve a device. Turning approval off can address this but doesn't explain why it has never been an issue before. Under Prestaged Devices, there was 99 devices, by deleting an entry (98 at that point) and turning approval back on i was then able to proceed - "The pending device was successfully approved". I tested it again at 99 and received the legacy mode error.
WDS was re-installed, services restarted etc but this was the only way to get that error to go away.. Is there a limit to approved devices? Ie 99..
----------------------------------------
3) Is there a way to remove all Prestaged Devices via a command as it has to be done one by one (very slow) either in the GUI or by the Remove-WdsClient command. There doesn't appear to be a wildcard command to clear them all.
----------------------------------------
4) What is the difference between Prestaged Devices and Active Directory Prestaged Devices? If it is a standalone config why do the Domain Admin entries appear there?
----------------------------------------
Thank you for any assistance, if you require more information please let me know.
Marc
