WDS capturing image upload to server fails

$

Hi,

I've a problem uploading my captured image to the WDS server during the capturing process.

Everytime an error occurs saying there's not enough space on the volume. But there is plenty of space (60+ GBs) on the server's volume. After clicking on "connect" in the capture image wizard the client also gets an IP address and I can ping the WDS server. The locally created image.wim is about 6 GBs in size.

I've no idea whats going wrong here.

I would be very grateful for any tips.

Greetings

Marius

Windows 2008 R2 Datacenter page file sizing

$

Hi,

I would like to know what is the suggested (or best practise) page file size of the Windows 2008 R2 Datacenter? As I searched that some recommendations are to be the physical memory times 1.5.

According to the specifications, the Datacenter version has the limitations of 2 terabyte, and if we maximize it, then we have to set the page file size to 2 x 1.5, which is 3 terabyte in the harddisk?

I am going to enable this system as the HyperV.

WDS Capture

Hi all,

I have successfully uploaded an Image to my WDS server, all completed perfect....

When I go to deploy the new image to a new machine it keeps coming up with the "Windows Deployments Services Image Capture Wizard" instead of what I was expecting.... the option to install the new image on the machine!

There were no errors and the timestamps on the WIM file indicate that it was successfully uploaded.

Any ideas?

Setting the Allocation Unit Size When Creating Partitions Using WSIM

$

Does anybody know if there any way to set the allocation unit size when setting up disks using an AutoUnattended.xml? This is for Windows Server 2012. The reason for doing so, is to be able to format the disks that will be used with SQL server with 64K bytes per cluster, without having to manually or use a script to format these once the OS install has completed. Thanks in advance.

IE 9 downgrade to IE 8 Windows Server 2008 R2 x64

Hello.

I try to downgrade IE on my windows server 2008 machine. I start with this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/957700#stepsforwin2008r2 , there is howto for IE 8, but I using it for IE 9, propably there was my mistake...

After that command (dism /online /Disable-Feature /FeatureName:Internet-Explorer-Optional-amd64) I don't have IE 9 and try to install IE 8, but i got error:

After this step i realize, that somewhere must be some IE 9 components still be, i start search and find that on Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features\Installed Updateswas IE 9 and I uninstall it. (After all operations I restarted machine)

Now I can't install IE 8 (it have same error what before), and don't get/can't install IE 9.

In folder C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer and C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet ExplorerI got files:

Is some way to get IE 8 or at least IE 9?

Thanks!

On this thread is some discusion about this: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/winserversetup/thread/68e0da1e-75b9-42e6-a832-d7bb6dc580c7

Lync 2013 Mobility will not connect

We have a Lync 2013 solution with one FE server, one edge server, and a reverse-proxy running IIS/ARR.  the client connection works great, as well as the external clientless connection.  the problem is with Mobility.  I have read countless blogs and I cannot seem to find out why the SSL connection fails.  I have lyncdiscover and lyncdiscoverinternal in DNS, as well as lyncdiscover in public DNS.  Everythign resolves.  When I go to the https://mylyncserver.com I am prompted to download the user file.  I put on a packet sniffer and the reverse-proxy and FE server are talking away like school girls.  I downloaded the lync connectivity tester and when I aim it at the internal FE server, it passes, when I aim it at the reverse-proxy it fails.

Here is the results from testing it agaist the lyncdiscover.domain.com using my credentials....

I have DNS set, I have the certificates set (as far as I can tell), I have the firewall turned off (just in case).  I have both DNS entries pointing at the proxy as I read that with 2013 all mobiltiy services go through the proxy whether they are internal or external.

Any ideas, I have been banging my head against this all weekend......?

WDS 2012 capture image job dumps drivers

$

Scenario:

Server 2012 with WDS installed and configured, PXE and AD enabled

This system has captured and deployed Windows 7 and 8 images so I'm pretty sure its set up correctly

Test client is a Dell Optiplex 740, Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx NIC

Problem:

Using a newly downloaded Server 2012 ISO I can import the boot.wim as a deployment image.  This boots correctly on the test machine just fine, I can verify network functionality via command line.  If i take that exact image in WDS and "create capture image" it snaps network functionality, the NIC isnt even detected.  The test machine will boot without error but is unable to use the network.

Troubleshooting:

I attempted the same procedure using a new Windows 8 ISO, same problem

I installed WDS on a test server and made the boot images, then imported the images into the production WDS system, same problem

For troubleshooting I disabled all additional drivers on the production WDS server, the test WDS server never had additional drivers added.

Possibly related:

This all started when I needed to add a driver to a previously functional capture image.  Whenever I inserted a driver into the capture image the target machine would blue screen before it finished loading the boot wim.  This problem was/is repeatable.

This feels like I have stumbled upon some sort of bug.  After removing as many variables as I could and attempting to use only the core functionality I am still experiencing problems.

how to perform unattend installation ignoring additional disks

Hi everyone,

we got a automated windows server deployment system. We're now running into a issue with the drive configuration.

Our problem is the following: We have multiple disk configurations by default. Some deployed virtual servers got only the system drive, others got up to 6 additional scsi-controller with attached drives. Only the Primary System disk for Windows Installation is identical for every server.

Is there a way to have Windows ignore all additional drives in the server without Interrupting unattended Installation.  Actually, if i attach a second Controller and disk in my VM and starting deployment it fails with "0x80004005 DiskConfiguration". With only one Controller and disk it's all ok.

Its no problem for us to Format and Partition additional disk later manually.

Thanks for your help,

Peter

i would like to use TFTP-Server part of WDS-Server for delivering default config-files to our switches.

i setup DHCP option 66 to ip of wds-server and i see tftp-requests for default-config-file on wireshark. but wds-server answers always with error code 4 and message access-violation. the default-config-file exists on tftp-root-path and is readable by everyone. it's a simple text-file.

there is no image for pxe-boot or windows-deployment required.

thanks for any help.

Windows Installer "broken"

$

I have been trying to install numerous programs and every single install fails with the same error: Error 1723. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A DLL required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. I have spent days searching the web and forums for an answer and all the answers didn't fix it or I can't do it. I have tried to install it again with WindowsServer2003-KB942288-v4-x86 and it will get to "update.exe" and then it says "Not enough storage is available to process this command" and fails to install. I've done a full scan with windows defender and nothing came up. Oh, and I have Windows 8.

Thanks in advance

P.S. I hope I put this question in the right forum, sorry if I didn't.
