Windows Server 2008 R2 drive letter changes after system reboot

Hello,

We had a weird issue with a 2008 R2 virtual machine , It is having two separate .vmdk files(not shared) for OS and Data partition named C: and E: .. The issue occurred last year for the first time when additional vCPU were added to VM and reboot was done. the E: (Data drive) drive letter disappeared... I had to manually assign the drive letter back (however C:\ was intact)

Now we had the same issue again (no configuration change either at OS or virtual machine) after a schedule reboot of the same virtual machine again it has lost the E: drive letter (c: is again perfect) .. both are connected using SCSI controller ..checked with VMware support but they are clueless ..Trying to get a way out is someone had ever heard on this

Thanks
