Hi,
Starting from the beginning, my company is an IT provider, and one of the services that we have are rollouts and operating system deployment in mass scale to costumers. In the middle of this, some costumers send us the image closed in a WIM file format, others send us an reference machine in order to capture and deploy to new machines, normally we dont have any kind of access to this reference machines (logins, etc). until now, we were using the old fassion way, Ghost. In order to provide a better service to costumers and the technicians, I implemented an W2K12R2 Server with WDS and MDT 2013 installed.
The questions start here, from what I discovered, WDS can only capture reference computers that have been syspreped, is this actually true? Is there someway around this?
2nd Question, from one of the costumers that we have, we actually have a WIM file provided from the costumer, i tried to import this WIM file to WDS, but I receive an error saying that is an "invalid image file". I can mount the image using DISM without a problem, is there any way to workaround this problem? Or WDS only works with images that he actually capture?
3rd question, after seen this problems from the last 2 questions, I installed MDT 2013, can i use MDT to only deploy the images and do nothing more?
Do to the lack of skills (that actually the team that do this service, don't need) MDT is much more complex than WDS, so if I can stick with WDS only, it will be great for them.
Thks
