The operation failed to complete because the Disk Management console view is not
up-to-date. Refresh the view by using the refresh task. If the problem persists
close the Disk Management console, then restart Disk Management or restart the
computer.

Followed with a corresponding entry in the Event Viewer:

The add plex operation failed to complete. Volume:

I'm reposting in a new thread because I've encountered a very similar error and the previous respondent never actually resolved the issue. His responses made no sense (no offence Leo). But also because my experience adds a kink.

My scenario is a Windows 2008 R2 system with 2 physical HDD (recently replaced). When I initially replaced a faulty drive from the system, the mirror failed to rebuild in "Disk Management" as the new HDD is 'Advanced Format'. 4096k sectors vs. 512b. I do not remember the specific errors then.

I resorted to cloning the surviving HDD with tools from Macrium. Following which I was able to boot using the new 'clone' and got the server up and running all data intact. It's been this way for the past week.

My problem rears it's head after I installed the second replacement drive (to meet the size and format of the first) and I attempt to mirror the System/Boot partition or 'C:\' drive if you will, from Disk 0 to Disk 1.

The curiosity is that creating a mirror for the second and third partition (D:\ and E:\) presents no problems and works faultlessly.

To answer Leo's questions from the other thread: 1. I am logged on as Administrator. 2. I would mirror at 'disk level' if I was creating a set on two additional BLANK drives in the system, but we are speaking of the System/Boot partition. 3. The disks are all dynamic, are online and are set to MBR.

When attempting the process using DISKPART I get:

DISKPART> add disk=1

Virtual Disk Service error:
The disk's extent information is corrupted.

DiskPart has referenced an object which is not up-to-date.
Refresh the object by using the RESCAN command.
If the problem persists exit DiskPart, then restart DiskPart or restart the
computer.

DISKPART>

Any assistance in resolving this frustration of mine is welcome.
