Need to resolve a licensing issue created when we setup our Win2019 Essential server. We setup the physical server as the domain controller and then setup a Hyper-V server instance on that same machine. Although not best practices, it was done to avoid an application support restriction from running on the domain controller instance. It wasn't clear that the Hyper-V option for Essentials was only to run the single DC server in Hyper-V - not a second server instance hence the licensing issue.
To fix this, can we upgrade the domain controller instance to standard edition (without re-install) and, then upgrade the Hyper-V instance to standard? I am assuming that both OS instances will be covered under the single Win 2019 STD license and we'd need to then order CAL licenses for the 8 users.
