Hello,
i'm trying to perform an in-place upgrade from server 2016 (Os Build 14393.3326) to server 2019 (ISO Media label: SSS_x64FREV_EN-US_DV9). After the first reboot during the install process, the server gets stuck on the windows splash screen and the only option is to perform a cold restart. After the system restarts and after login, the system displays the following error:
We couldn't install Windows Server 2019
We've set your PC back to the way it was right before you started installing Windows Server 2019
0xC1900101 - 0x20017
The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during BOOT operation
I have tried everything I can think of. I also made sure there is plenty of disk space on C:, and there is no third party anti-virus software installed. The windows setup media is mounted and connected at all times on the VM, even during reboots.
The system is running on VMWare with 2CPUs (1745 MHz used), 8GB RAM. Compatibility: ESXi 5.1 and later (VM version 9).
Recently, on the same VM, an in-place upgrade from Server 2012 to Server 2016 went perfectly fine.
Any suggestions?
Thank you!
