I am trying to get a WDS server setup and running and am running into an issue when trying to create a capture image with a network driver. If I boot the system from a standard capture image, with no network driver, I can get into the WinPE environment without any issues but cannot connect to the WDS server because of the lack of a network driver. If I manually add the driver after booting from the capture image it works fine.
I decided that I would try to inject the driver into the capture image using the WDS so that it would automatically load when booting and I wouldn't have to do it manually. When booting from the capture image with the injected network driver, I see the Windows loading screen for a few seconds and then it goes to a blank screen. I have tried this on Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2016 Tech Preview 3. I have tried with the boot.wim from Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10, using the appropriate network driver for each one.
I know that I have the correct network drivers because if I load them manually from a standard capture image, they work fine. Has anyone else run into this?
