I have some strange behavior using WDS and MDT. First, what works. All unknown, non-prestaged, computers work according to plan. PXE boot goes to the DHCP server, a dynamic IP is assigned, the WDS is found, and the menu for boot file x64 or x86 is presented. I chose a LiteTouch boot wim, and can install the image. No problems.
However, if I prestage the computer, when WDS is contacted, it ignores the properties that set the boot files, downloads WDSNBP.com and tries to find a non-existent referral server with an IP of 169.254.XX.XX. I have no idea why it is not using the boot files set in properties and work with unknown computers.
I have played with the configuration and the only variable that seems to produce this behavior is when the computer is prestaged. If I remove the computer from AD and prestage again, the bad referral behavior comes back.
Why does prestaging redirect the boot file to WBSNBP.COM and not the ones assigned in WDS Server properties?
