Hello,

I have HP ProLiant DL380p Server with a DAS HP Storageworks.  I have the following raids creating on the server.

Raid 1 (2 drives 146 SAS) > Windows Server 2008 > c:\drive

Raid 5 (5 Drivers 300 SAS)> DATA > d:\drive

I want upgrade to windows server 2012 OS and still keep my existing 2008 server OS, in case something goes wrong with the installation also before I put the server back online in production mode.  If something fails I can revert back to my 2008 OS.

I will Install 2 300 SAS drivers and create a new RAID 1 space

 New Configuration

Raid 1 (2 drives 146 SAS) > Windows Server 2008 > c:\drive

Raid 5 (5 Drivers 300 SAS)> DATA > d:\drive

Raid 1 (2 drives 300 SAS) > Windows Server 2012 > c:\drive  <<<< NEW RAID CREATED

  1. Creating a new raid 1, will I lose my old raid 1 - windows server 2008 and my data drive?

HP TECHAs per the details given to me, you can create another logical volume i.e. you can create an RAID 1 with two hard drives and install the OS. But we cannot determine that how you will boot to OS since there will be two OS for same server. And we do not support on this scenario. In order to clarify this complexity please do contact Microsoft.”

  1. Now that I have TWO OS installed on the server I am able to Boot to either OS I chose from the Boot Menu?
