Currently running single label domain (EXAMPLE) on Server 2003
New hardware has been added and we would like to begin the migration process to a new DC and domain (EXAMPLE.LAN) on Server 2012 r2. The new DC cannot be added as a child due to the single-label domain in place.
Question:
- Can the new DC be added on the same LAN without conflicts with regard to DHCP? DHCP is currently managed by EXAMPLE and will not be deployed on EXAMPLE.LAN until the old hardware is decommissioned.
- DNS is managed by the gateway, will creating a DNS server in this environment create any sort of issues I should look for?
Not sure what the best practice is in this instance.
