I have been searching the Internet and reading a ridiculous amount of blog posts and tutorials trying to find the Microsoft Recommended Order to install the roles.
I personally have always done
- Install OS
- Configure Name & Static IP of server
- Install DHCP & DNS
- Turn off DHCP on any other Devices/router
- Configure DHCP & DNS
- Reboot Server, then after DHCP is up, reboot all other equipment.
- Install Active Directory
- Configure AD.
- Then install any other roles that were needed (WSUS, Windows Deployment Services, Hyper-V, Whatever)
I didn't see anything wrong with this, but recently my Boss asked me to redesign our network and that got me to Wondering WHY do I do it that way. It seems to work well, but I was wondering what Microsoft's Recommended order of installation (and configuration) of roles are.
I'm not asking HOW to install any particular role, I just was curious about the order.
Any Info is appreciated. Also if you guys (or gals) want to throw in your order (and why you do it that way) I would greatly appreciate it.
